The Congrès Mondial Amazigh/Amazigh World Congress Participates in the 19th Session of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of
Indigenous Peoples
The Congrès Mondial Amazigh/Amazigh World Congress (CMA) will participate in the 19th session of the United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP), to be held from July 13 to 17, 2026, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The main theme of this year's session focuses on "the rights of indigenous peoples in conflict and post-conflict situations," but other important topics are also on the agenda: EMRIP’s country engagement, artificial intelligence for the benefit of indigenous peoples, strengthening indigenous participation within the United Nations, the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, and a general debate with the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples and members of international treaty bodies.
CMA delegates plan to speak on all agenda items to inform and raise awareness among UN bodies regarding the specific issues faced by the Amazigh people in their respective countries. The CMA will place particular emphasis on serious human rights violations and repression, the issue of Amazigh political prisoners in Algeria (Kabyles, At-Mzab, and Chaouis) and Morocco (Rifians), and the deeply concerning matter of the dispossession of Amazigh communities' lands and natural resources, particularly in Morocco, Algeria and Libya.
The CMA will urge the relevant UN bodies to take a resolute and firmer stand in support of the Amazigh people, with the aim of putting an end to the racism and colonial-style treatment to which Amazigh populations are subjected by states across North Africa.
On the sidelines of the EMRIP session, and with the aim of raising awareness among UN bodies and the Swiss public—and garnering their support for the release of political prisoners from the Rif (Morocco) and the Kabyle, M'zab, and Chaoui regions (Algeria)—the CMA is calling for a rally at the Place des Nations in Geneva on July 13, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
Paris, 26.06.2976 – 6.07.2026
