It is with immense sadness that we learned of the death of our brother Antonio Félix Martin Hormiga, the first President of the Congrès Mondial Amazigh / Amazigh World Congress, in the Island of Lanzarote. The Board and the Federal Council of the CMA express their deepest condolences to his family and friends. They assure them of their profound sympathy and fraternal support during this difficult time.
Antonio Félix Martin Hormiga was elected President of the Congrès Mondial Amazigh / Amazigh World Congress at the first CMA congress, held at the end of August 1997 in Tafira, on the island of Gran Canaria. During his term, Antonio courageously and with great dedication assumed his high office of President of the CMA, at the most challenging time of the organization's early stages. Aware of the challenges, he acted with the constant aim of uniting the Amazigh people and mobilizing them in support of the promotion of their rights, dignity, freedom, and sovereignty in all the countries of Tamazgha, including, of course, the Canary Islands.
Director of cultural institutions on the island of Lanzarote and author of several books, Antonio Félix Martin Hormiga was a great man of letters who dedicated his life to promoting indigenous Canarian culture, which he kept alive through writing, poetry, and theater.
With his passing, the CMA members and all Amazigh people have lost a brother, a comrade in the struggle, and a great man of culture.
May he rest in peace. Ad isgunfu g talwit. ⴰⴷ ⵉⵙⴳⵓⵏⴼⵓ ⴳ ⵜⴰⵍⵡⵉⵜ.
