Closing of the 9th general congress of the CMA

Closing of the 9th general congress of the CMA in Mugadir, Morocco

After three days of conscientious work, the 9th CMA congress has just ended in Tassurt-Mugadir, Essaouira, Morocco.

It was held in a serene and fraternal atmosphere despite a worrying context, marked in particular by the absence of Amazighs from Algeria due to the climate of fear reigned by the Algerian regime and the bans on leaving the territory. Tunisia is experiencing a similar situation, which explains the non-participation of the Amazighs of this country in the Mugadir congress. Concerning our sisters and brothers in Libya, the CMA deplores and denounces the non-issuance of visas by Morocco, for our sisters and brothers in this country.

The CMA assembly was also happy to welcome representatives of friendly peoples, notably Régions et Peuples Solidaires, the European Free Alliance and the Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of Africa for the Protection of Nature. Many messages of sympathy were sent to the CMA from NGOs and Amazigh representatives who were unable to go to Mugadir.

The congress took place in a fraternal and studious atmosphere with rich debates, particularly during the workshops devoted to the “akal”, land, language, human rights and the right of the Amazighs to self-determination and self-governance. Demands were reiterated to African and UN authorities were called upon to help the Amazighs protect their rights in accordance with international law. The CMA assembly also paid tribute at length to the deceased founders and members of the CMA and adopted the declaration and plan of action of Mugadir. As planned, the congress ended with the statutory general assembly of the CMA during which the moral and financial report was presented. Then, the delegates designated their representatives in the CMA bodies: The Federal Council and the World Bureau. The CMA World Bureau (WB) is now composed as follows:

Nasser Abouzakhar, President

Tumas Mora, Vice-President for the Canary Islands

Zoubida Fdail, Vice-President Morocco

Rabah Issadi, diaspora vice-president

Belkacem Lounès, Secretary General

Mhand Mimouni, Deputy Secretary General

Youssef Mahfouf, Treasurer

Mohamed Maraki, Deputy Treasurer.

The CMA would like to thank the Municipality of Tassurt-Mugadir, Essaouira for making the Essaouira cultural center available to the Tigzirt association in order to host the 9th CMA congress. The CMA also thanks the director and staff of the cultural center for facilitating the organization of the CMA congress in Tassurt-Mugadir.
